It’s been a dream of Andy Hyland’s for years.

“When I was growing up, I’d tell my mom someday I’m going to be on that show,” he said.

The KU spokesman was right.

Hyland told 41 Action News the mission started two years ago with an online test.

“You do 50 questions: regular, old, no categories. They fire them at you, and you answer as best you can,” he said.

Hyland later received a call asking him if he wanted to be a contestant.

“I’ve always enjoyed trivia. I’ve got a bunch of random facts knocking around my brain. So, it’s just great to put that to use,” Hyland said.

He said the key is to think quick on your feet and be even quicker with your fingers.

“It’s really a timing sort of game,” Hyland said. “A lot of the stuff on the show, everybody knows and it’s really who can ring in at the right time.”

Hyland finished in 2nd place, but he left with $2,000 and a lifetime of memories.

“Sure, I would’ve liked to win, but just being able to go on the show is a great honor,” he said. “I wouldn't trade it for the world.”
