Kansas City police released a video of a man who "may have vital information" in a homicide along Indian Creek Trail.

The video was released months after the death of Mike Darby, 61. Darby was the co-owner of Coach's Bar & Grill at 103rd and Wornall Road.

Previous story: Body found near Indian Creek trail identified, police investigating as homicide

"The person in the video is not considered a suspect," police said in the video posted on Tuesday.

Darby's body was found on May 18.

Mike Darby's son describes 2017 as the worst year of his life

"Whenever the phone rings from a detective I hope it's good news we have been waiting for," said Brian Darby, Mike Darby's son, who describes 2017 as the worst year of his life.

Brian Darby got a call from a friend that morning who said they had seen reports a man with two dogs was found dead.

Brian Darby said he initially didn't think it was his father, but when he pulled up he had a bad feeling.

Brian Darby said his father walked his two black Labradors, Coach and Sadie, on that part of Indian Creek Trail almost every morning between 4 and 5 a.m.

He said one of the things he misses most about his father is working and talking with him. Brian Darby said he wants to call his father several times a day, or even send him a funny photo, when he remembers he can't.

"I haven't forgotten you. We love you more than we ever said - and the whole city is thinking about you. We won't let this go, Pop," said Brian Darby.

Mike Darby leaves behind three children and nine grandchildren.

Other homicides along Indian Creek Trail

Since August 2016, there were four homicides, including Mike Darby, along the south Kansas City trail.

The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the possibility of the cases being related.

August 19, 2016 - John W. Palmer, 55, East Bannister Road, Lydia Avenue

February 27, 2017 - David Lennox, 66, 9939 Walnut Street

April 4, 2017 - Timothy S. Rice, 57, 1601 East Red Bridge Road

May 18, 2017 - Michael Darby, 373 West 101st Street Terrace

All four of the victims were white males between the ages of 54-67. Three of the men were walking their dogs along the trail or close to it, officials said.

Mike Lennox's father, David was shot to death in February outside his home at the Willow Creek Apartment complex nearby.

"We know what the Darby family is going through and they know what we're going through, and fortunately there's not a lot of people that know what it's like to have their father murdered," Lenox said.

But could the person in the video have any information? Police need to find the person first.

"Hopefully this footage will break something open for the Darby family, hopefully for our family as well," Lenox said.

Both the Darby and Lenox families increased their reward for information leading to an arrest.

At this time, there is not physical evidence that suggests the cases are related, but the possibility is being reviewed by police.
