The Longest Opening Day First Pitch will feature the world's smartest baseball.

Not only will the event make history, but all money raised will benefit the nonprofit Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy.

Anyone who wants to support the effort can go to RelayTheWay.com and create a message about what baseball in Kansas City means to them.

While 2,500 baseball fans will have the opportunity to relay this smart baseball along the 9.49-mile route from Kansas City's Union Station to Kauffman Stadium, anyone around the world can support the good cause by donating and writing their own message online. After it crosses home plate for Royals Opening Day, the well wishes of the entire city will be put on display in the Royals Hall of Fame where fans can access all of the messages. The Smart Ball will act like a time capsule for Opening Day.

VML is the agency who designed this Smart Ball, making it possible to put a tiny computer inside the ball.
