KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Three Kansas City, Mo., city employees will spend taxpayer money for a trip to Spain for the streetcar project.
The city will spend a little more than $7,600 to send the trio to Spain, with money coming from the streetcar budget.
The group will spend four days on what the city stressed as a work trip. They will meet with engineers who will make parts for the streetcar as well as inspect the factory.
The factory overseas will only produce parts; a facility in New York will actually build the streetcar.
"This is a chance to make sure the Kansas City streetcar is built exactly how we want it to be built, with all the modifications we are making and fulfill our contract," KCMO Spokesman Chris Hernandez said.
Hernandez said this type of trip is standard after such a big purchase and that they do not expect future trips to Spain.
