KC fire crews put out Plaza-area apartment fire

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Residents in an 11-story apartment building near the County Club Plaza were forced to evacuate Monday night after a fire in an apartment unit.

Fire crews were dispatched out just after 10:30 p.m. to the multi-story about building near 47th and Roanoke on reports of a fire in a fourth-floor unit.

The first crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, but not before smoke spread throughout numerous hallways and stairwells, prompting an evacuation of the rest of the building.

Everybody inside the impacted unit was able to exit the apartment without incident, though crews say the occupants will have to find another place to stay Monday night.

An investigator was responding to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
