Kansas City group sends dolls to Newtown survivors

LENEXA, Kan. - A local organization is hoping to help grieving families who lost children in last week's Newtown, Conn., school shooting tragedy. Twenty-six guardian angel buddies are on their way to Newtown right now.

Members of the Shadow Buddies Foundation made the dolls to represent each of the 20 children and six adults who died in the Dec. 15 shooting rampage. Organizers say they wanted to give the grieving families a small piece of Kansas City in hopes that they will find comfort in the dolls.

"I just would find it comforting to me to know that somebody really cared," said Marty Postlethwait, founder of the Shadow Buddies Foundation. "This is a tangible item that family members or people could hold onto that would probably hold that loved one dear to their heart."

Shadow Buddies are normally made for area kids who are seriously ill.

The dolls will be delivered to the families by the Newtown Fire Marshal's office as soon as they get there.
