The Kansas City Marathon kicked off Saturday with an even stronger showing than last year.

The race that runs by many famous Kansas City landmarks has different options for runners. there was a wheelchair race, full marathon, half marathon, 5k and 10k.

The youngest person running the half marathon is probably Addyson Morrittz, who is running for team vision.

She is just eight years old, but raised $17,000.00 to help those without water in Africa. She is part of Team Vision, that includes a group of more than 700 runners.

Race Director Dave Borchardt, says organizers are trying to make the Kansas City Marathon a can't-miss event.

Borchardt added that a race can unite a whole city in celebration."Our course allows us to showcase many of Kansas City's most beautiful, unique areas, including 18th & Vine, the Plaza, Waldo, Westport, and the WWI Memorial, and we need people in these neighborhoods and throughout the city to line the streets and show our runners what Kansas City is all about."
