KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Stay at home moms are working together to redefine what it means to be a mom who works inside the home. Nationwide, more moms are choosing to give up their timecards in exchange for quality time with their children.
Kansas City Moms Blog is a collaborative blog written by KC moms, for KC moms and striving to bring mothers together in meaningful and lasting community. The blog includes regular posts on everything from things to do around town, ways to get involved in the community and parenting solutions all with a local twist.
In 2012, 29 percent of moms stayed at home; much more than 23 percent of moms in 1999. But it's not always by choice. Many moms can't find work, and sometimes, child care is just too expensive.
Tonya Blythe of Kansas City Moms Blog, sat down with 41 Action New's Lisa Benson to talk about how mom's are redefining what it means to be a stay at home mom.
"The role of stay at home mom is constantly changing," Blythe shared.
Blythe added that everyone's situation is unique, but said mothers are finding great fulfillment in caring for their children and families. The mother of a 5- and 2-year-old choose to stay home and started a blog to best serve her family and connect with other metro moms.
"We know that it's difficult to get out and meet other moms when naps and eating and potty-training are calling for your attention," Blythe said.
