KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 41 Action News has learned that officials from Kansas City's committee seeking the 2016 Republican Convention will host a reception for Republican Party leaders in Washington D.C. during the RNC's winter meetings in late January.
A bid committee spokesperson confirmed that Kansas City will put on the reception. A Republican official with knowledge of the meetings said Kansas City will likely hold its reception on the meeting's opening day, January 22.
Teams from Columbus, Ohio, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Denver are also expected to travel to DC and make similar presentations, according to the official.
The Kansas City bid committee spokesperson could not say who from the city would travel to Washington. A spokesperson for Mayor Sly James did not immediately return a request for comment.
