If you take the streetcar to work, you will have to find a different ride Monday morning.
Scheduled maintenance was underway overnight and in the early morning hours making the streetcar unavailable for the morning commute.
Crews worked on re-tensioning, which is tightening overhead wires and making sure they connect soundly to the top of the streetcar.
They tested it around 7 a.m. on Main Street near Pershing. Only one lane was open for traffic heading to Pershing.
First, they tested it on battery and then they will test on normal electricity.
It is the first time they have done this maintenance since the streetcar opened.
A back-up plan for regular riders was in place. Ride KC offered free trips for those normally picked up along the streetcar route.
They expect it to be reopened by 9 a.m.
