KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In the future, voters may have the final decision on any major changes out at KCI Airport.
Kansas City council members announced Thursday they will pass an ordinance requiring voter approval before any new passenger terminal is built or torn down. It will help keep the city out of a court battle while still making progress at the airport.
Airport leaders wanted a new, single-terminal design because they say the current layout is inefficient and presents security concerns, which is costing Kansas City flights to new destinations.
Friends of KCI drafted the petition for the ordinance in May of 2013.
