Kansas City Missouri Police have a new eye in the sky to help find missing people.

The department is now testing drones to assist in the search of those who wander off. Police anticipate using the technology to track those who may disappear because of dementia or other conditions.

The drones will also help find children who wear special bracelets.

The company Care Trakprovides the bracelets to families who have children who wander off.

All six police stations have a device that can track those bracelets.  But until now, police officers had to hit the pavement to find the children.  By using the drones though, the bracelets can be tracked from six miles away.

The drones can be used during both the day and the night.  The drones are equipped with heat-seeking information.  That helps officers see a missing person when it is dark.
