KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A dog is recovering after it was shot in the face and left to die.
Prince, a 2-year-old lab mix, was found with a fractured jaw earlier this week near Springfield. X-rays showed bullet fragments lodged inside his mouth.
He ended up in the Kansas City area.
Veterinarians said it's amazing the dog survived.
"We see dogs that have been shot actually quite a bit. Most of the time, the bullets can stay in there and not do very much damage, but in this case there was abscesses around the mouth, so we had to take those out. There was a lot of small little bullet fragments in there we had to flush out,” Kyle Pellow, veterinarian at Crane Veterinary Center, said.
Prince is expected to make a full recovery, and he will be ready for adoption by next week.
