MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. - A high school band trip hit a sour note Tuesday night when more than dozen students became ill.
The incident happened on buses bringing 164 Kansas City-area students home from a trip to New York City, according to a spokesperson for Excela Health Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant, Pa.
The students are from De Soto High School .
The students began getting sick as the buses traveled on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The Excela Health Frick facility was the closest to an exit off the turnpike, the spokesperson said.
Both buses went to the hospital so the students could stay together.
Excela Health treated 21 students and discharged them by late Wednesday morning. Another 20 were still being cared for with IV fluids and anti-nausea medications.
The hospital has provided cases of Gatorade and medication for nausea to allow the group to get back on the road as soon as they are ready.
A school district spokesman said the students are expected to return home Thursday.
