KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City has been named the national Big Sister of the Year.
Sandra Rayford won the award after already being named the Kansas City and Missouri Big Sister of the Year.
Rayford has been matched with Sena' Ford since Sena' was 10 years old. She's seen Sena' grow up not only physically, but mentally and socially as well.
"When I first met her, she was a shy little girl," Rayford said. "I'd say over the last three or four years, she's become a chatterbox."
Sena' says without the mentoring and help from Rayford, she wouldn't have gotten to where she is today.
"She's just helped me grow," Sena' explained. "I wouldn't have known about many places, wouldn't have been places, so I just think she's helped me grow."
The pair will be recognized at the Big Brothers Big Sisters national conference in Denver in June.
