Think of the holidays and you think of Santa, reindeer, snow and….around Indian Creek Parkway and Mur-Len in Olathe…PENGUINS!

It’s Paulie’s Penguin Playground time, again!

Paul Craig is the human behind the penguins.

A few years ago, 1999 to be exact, Paul decided to surprise his wife with a few inflatable friends in the front yard.

By 2004, there were 15 penguins and a few lights.

Now, the number of fun figures is closing in on 200! And there are more than just a “few” lights.

Another important number is 42 --  as in $42,000 raised for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Walking through the playground is free, but in 2007, Paul and the Craig family decided to put a little coffee can out for contributions to LLS in memory of Paul’s mom.

That decade of happy giving may just hit $50,000 this year.

If you and your family want to enjoy one of the largest displays in the metro, you have until the night of Christmas Day. After that, the switch is flipped off until Paul and his friends start putting it all back up around Halloween. (It takes a full month to get it shining!)

Oh, one more thing, you know the old saying, “Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody ever does anything about it?”

Well, Paulie does something about it. Regardless of the forecast, it does snow, on a regular basis, at Paulie’s Penguin Playground.
