Man shot, killed near at pavilion near Starlight Theatre

Police are investigating a homicide at a pavilion near the Starlight Theatre Saturday night. 

According to Kansas City police dispatch, officers were initially called to the 4600 block of Starlight Rd. around 9:15 p.m. on a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound at a pavilion near Swope Park. 

The man was taken away via ambulance in life-threatening condition. He later died. 

A suspect in the homicide has been identified, but police said they are not in custody. 

Police say the victim was at a family gathering when the shooting happened. No other injuries were reported. 

The investigation is ongoing. 

Police say this is the third homicide in Kansas City, Missouri in the last 24 hours, and the 75th homicide this year.
