One local candy shop in KC is stocked with the old-time essentials including pop rocks, candy cigarettes and Necco wafers—giving customers a trip down memory lane.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Families are now spending more on Halloween than any other holiday of the year except Christmas. By Thursday, people will have spent more than $2 billion on Halloween treats.
Bitterman's Eye Candy in Midtown has been selling confections for more than 77 years in Kansas City. But it is not your average candy shop; the treats in this shop span several generations.
Old school candy line the shelves from Smarties, Slo Pokes and your grandma's Ribbon Candy to Wax Lips, Gobstoppers and candy cigarettes.
Owner Leslie Bitterman said several generations in one family often visit the shop together.
"It's the stories, the memories, people associate candy with memories from childhood. It's always a good memory," Bitterman said.
Bitterman said candy corn is still one of the best sellers.
