KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Democratic Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal won't lose her seat in the Missouri Senate for her Facebook comment expressing that she wished President Donald Trump would be assassinated.

Chappelle-Nadal will be officially censured and has already lost several duties over the comment.

Last month, Lt. Gov. Mike Parsons called for a special session to remove Chappelle-Nadal from office.

After the announcement about the censure, Majority Floor Leader Mike Kehoe and Senate Leader Ron Richard sent out a joint statement calling for Chappelle-Nadal to step down.

"Censuring a sitting member has never been done in the history of the Missouri Senate," Kehoe said. "It is not something the Senate takes lightly. If Sen. Chappelle-Nadal was doing the right thing for her constituents, she would have resigned. Demonstrating a disrespect for the democratic process has no place in the Missouri Senate."

Chappelle-Nadal later apologized for her comment and said she was frustrated with Trump's response to violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
