KANSAS CITY, Mo. - This time of year is known as the beginning of not only summer, but road construction season.
A viewer contacted 41 Action News about the dangers of the on- and off-ramps at 291 Highway and Interstate 35 in the Northland. He said that the shoulder to get onto the highway is virtually non-existent.
Construction on this intersection is scheduled to last until December, but there is good news for the drivers concerned about merging. We checked the intersection out Thursday afternoon and found a short shoulder with hardly any room to merge. But we also noticed new yield signs which a MoDOT spokesperson says just went up.
"Due to the work at the bottom of the ramps, the usual merge movement for the traffic using the ramp is temporarily a yield condition. We encourage motorists to be very attentive to changing conditions in our work zones for their safety as well as the safety of our contractor partners and MoDOT staff," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
We're told the merge lanes will be lengthened in the next two weeks.
