A motorcyclist died after crashing into a concrete barrier sometime overnight.
A passerby saw the wrecked scene around 3 a.m., off South Quivira Road and West 153rd Street, and called emergency responders, police said. The motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Brock Rodgers of Overland Park, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he lived near the site of the wreck.
Rodgers struck a stone wall and lost control of his motorcycle. His aunt said he was on his way home when he crashed.
Friends and family gathered at the scene of the wreck to console each other. His aunt said Rodgers spent months working on his bike, a Triumph Speed Triple, and it was his "pride and joy."
Police said Rodgers was wearing a helmet and that speed appeared to be a factor in the fatal wreck.
