KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Northbound I-35 at the I-29 split has been reopened after a pedestrian was struck and killed trying to cross the interstate.
The pedestrian has been identified as 40-year-old Charles E. Truman.
KCATA Spokeswoman Cindy Baker and Highway Patrol said one of their buses taking people from downtown to Liberty struck the pedestrian. One person on the bus reported having minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Baker said no one else on the bus was injured.
According to Baker, 39 people were on the bus at the time. Authorities kept the riders on the bus to conduct interviews.
"While this investigation continues, the first priority needs to be for those who are grieving and the well-being of our bus operator and customers," General Manager Mark Huffer said.
Baker also said the driver of the bus was on her first day and had just completed driver training last week.
