New fire station opens in KCMO

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mayor Sly James helped cut the ribbon for the dedication ceremony for a new fire station in Kansas City, Missouri.

Fire Station 39 is located at East 47th Street and Sterling Avenue.

The fire chief says it's twice as big as the old station -- and will come with a lower energy bill.

"It is a station where even though our colors are red and white, this is a station that we're going green. And it is an energy efficient facility," said Chief Richard "Smokey" Dyer.

About 36 people will work at the new fire station. It will also have an ambulance staff.
