KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Making music more accessible and affordable is the mission behind the Base Academy of Music, also known as BAM.
The new nonprofit is targeting students living in urban areas of Kansas City, specifically along the 71 Highway corridor which they say is a “music desert.”
“Our goal is not to make professional musicians, it’s to make professionals. And I feel like music education is a vital tool in doing that,” Clint Velazquez with the Academy said.
Currently, BAM travels to different schools to teach but hopes to have a permanent location by 2016. The nonprofit is holding a benefit concert at the Czar Bar this Saturday at 6 p.m.
