KANSAS CITY, Mo. - On Thursday, Governor Nixon talked about the Missouri Attorney General's investigation into propane prices. Propane prices have doubled from $2 a gallon to $4 a gallon this winter. More than 200,000 families in rural Missouri rely on propane to heat their homes.
Nixon said new assistance is available to financially help struggling families. There is $14.9 million in federal money and the state has approved doubling the assistance families in need can receive to help pay their propane bills.
Families can find help through their local Community Action Agencies.
Nixon also thanked Missouri Department of Transportation maintenance workers for their hard work plowing snow this week.
He made his remarks during a visit to a MODOT maintenance facility in Kansas City. He shook hands and said well-done for their long hours and great results.
"A total of more than 1,500 trucks were used and more than 170,000 man-hours were worked and more than 15,000 tons of salt was applied," he said.
Nixon also said the combined efforts of MODOT with the Missouri Highway Patrol and the weather service helped make Missouri roads safer during and after the snow storm.
