KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Police are continuing to look for a suspect who shot and killed a 25-year-old man outside a gym in the Ward Parkway Shopping Center.

The shooting happened around 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, as the victim walked out of the Genesis Health Club.

“Honestly, it was a very scary experience,” said Houdah Abotteen, a nurse who was inside the gym during the shooting. “All of the sudden you just see people with terror, just terrified out of their minds.”

Abotteen said she walked towards the front of the gym and noticed a giant bullet hole in the front window. Someone then came inside, asking for a towel.

“He said, ‘well there’s a man, he’s been shot,’” she told 41 Action News. “I take off running with this man. We ended up stopping by the staircase by the Old Navy. And that’s where I found the man who was shot bleeding out and started doing compressions on him until the police showed up.”

Abotteen and two others tried to give the victim CPR.

Kansas City Police identified him as 25-year-old Darrell Allen, who was in town from Texas to visit family.

Detectives are still searching for a suspect, asking anyone with information to call police.

“My prayers just go out to the ones who lost him,” said Abotteen.
