LONE JACK, Mo. - Police have identified the pilot killed in a plane crash near Lone Jack, Mo., just north of U.S. 50 Highway.

The wheels of the plane were supposed to touch the grass runway, but a witness said shortly after take off, the pilot crashed into a field, known as Lamb's Field, about a quarter mile away.
Police have identified the pilot as 56-year-old Richard Scalet, of Greenwood, Mo.Those who were close to the Scalet said he's been flying for about five years.
Friends said for the last several months, he had been preparing for Tuesday. They said that afternoon was the first time he flew this type of ultra light plane; he usually flew power parachutes. The plane involved in the crash was a Kolb FireStar Ultra Light.
A witness who asked to speak off camera said he pulled Scalet out of the plane when it crashed and said he was dead when he got there.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
