Police are investigating a shooting that wounded a man traveling in a truck on Interstate 35 near Cambridge Circle.

Kansas City, Kansas Police said that the 29-year-old victim was found by Kansas City, Missouri Police at about 3:30 p.m. He was a passenger in the pick-up truck that pulled off on the exit ramp toward Cambridge Circle after the shooting.

The victim was shot in the head and was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital in critical condition. Police said he is currently in stable condition after undergoing surgery late Saturday afternoon.

The driver of the pick-up was not injured in the shooting. Police believe at least two men shot at the truck, but the motive is unknown.

“Some witnesses have said this vehicle may have followed the victim for a while so they’re unsure this was a road rage incident that happened earlier and they stayed with them,” Officer Cameron Morgan said.

The exit for Cambridge Circle near I-35 and Southwest Boulevard was shut down for more than two hours as police gathered evidence.

If you know anything about this shooting call police or the KC Crime Stoppers hotline 816-474-TIPS (8477).

Editor's Note: A previous version of this story stated the victim was 19-years-old, the story has been updated to reflect his accurate age of 29.
