SHAWNEE, Kan. — A historic marker in Shawnee was vandalized and part of it was stolen.

The marker at 6130 Nieman Road commemorated the location of the 1860s Star Blacksmith Shop.

According to Shawnee Town 1929’s Facebook post, there was a historic blacksmith’s anvil on the left side of the marker. Thieves used a sledgehammer to dislodge the anvil and stole it.

The limestone corner of the marker was also damaged.

The group asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Shawnee Police Department.
