Pastor of collapsed church says no one getting hurt is ‘a miracle'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Pastor Herminio Leal spoke about the church collapse that happened Thursday .

Leal was visibly shaken by what happened; he had left the church a short while before the collapse occurred.

He said the area of the church that collapsed was the building’s main sanctuary. The children were in that space a few minutes before the collapse for choir practice.

He called the fact no one was hurt a miracle.

“Most of the, three quarters of the building fell down so, that is something that. This morning we pray, we cry. Because this is our church. And ah, God is with us,” Leal said.

The pastor said they’ll know in a few days whether or not any part of the church can be salvaged.

They will find another place to meet this weekend.
