It's a sad story for many animals -- too many unclaimed, unadopted dogs and cats, and not enough space in the shelters.
That's particularly true at the Pet Connection in Johnson County and Beloit. It has an animal sanctuary for animals that need extra attention and specializes in high risk, special needs animals.
Its director tells 41 Action News heading into the summer, they have to turn away 10 to 15 animals each day because they do not have the space, fosters or money to care for everyone. In fact, most of the animals wait six months before they can be placed with a foster.

Anyone can be a foster - it's about finding the animal that matches your schedule and ability level.
"We tend to need skilled fosters for behavioral and medical needs pets. If we don't have a pet with you skill level, we will help find a pet," explained board member and foster Deborah Kallevig. Kallevig has been fostering for years and in fact has converted parts of her home to better serve the animals living there.
The Pet Connection says it sends resources even after an animal is placed.
