KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It's the season of giving and throughout the community we've seen local law enforcement give back to those in need.
Saturday morning deputies from the Platte Co. Sheriff's Department went shopping with underprivileged children.
When the program started 19 years ago, the department was able to help out 10 children – each spending around $50.
This year, the department was able to help out 60 children – each got to spend around $250. The money is all donated.
"Through the years, we've seen children come in with underwear three sizes too big, safety pinned in; feet that were starting to be deformed because of wrong shoes, so we are trying to step in and help meet that need for the areas that these families just kind of slip through," said Sheriff Mark Owen.
Deputies say the best part about helping the kids is seeing their smiles during their shopping spree.
