KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Some children in Kansas City had to work for their Halloween candy Monday night.
Monday was the first Track-or-Treat at the new Police Athletic League Center on White Avenue. Dozens of kids ran laps on the new track, and for each lap they completed, they were able to collect some treats.
Officers say the event provided children with a fun and safe Halloween event, while mixing in a bit of exercise.
"With the dangers that our youth face, especially in the inner city, we feel it necessary to provide a safe place for them to come where they can socialize and interact with other children," said James Thomas with Community Youth Services.
Many of the children the organization serves have never had the chance to play organized sports, so the new sports complex will give them that chance.
