A police chase started after a woman allegedly assaulted an employee at a Chinese restaurant in Independence and drove off without paying her bill.

The woman and her friend went to Lucky Buffet at 2931 S. Nolan Road and got their food. According to the restaurant, they were sitting at a table talking loudly and the waitress asked them to keep it down.

One woman got up from the table and started dancing around other tables and being loud.

The waitress asked them to please pay and leave, but they refused to pay. When they went out to the car to leave, the owner of the restaurant went out and tried to stop them, while the waitress called police. One of the two women hit the owner on the head. The restaurant says he is okay.

Police chased the two women in their vehicle that only reached speeds of 44 m.p.h. Police set out spike strips, but the driver just kept going on the shredded tires.

The passenger finally got out when the vehicle stopped near College Parkway and State Avenue, but vehicle took off again. There were many times it looked like the chase was over, but the driver was only stopping for traffic lights.

The chase ended when the driver, who was driving on ripped tires, pulled into a Firestone Tire Center. Police stopped her and took her into custody. The passenger is also in custody at this time.
