KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police have identified the 8-year-old girl who died after being hit by an ice cream truck in Kansas City, Mo., Friday.
Lillian Simon was hit when she was running after the truck at 108th and N. Harrison.
A witness told police the girl was trying to stop the truck. The driver briefly pulled over, but when he started driving again, the girl darted in front of the vehicle.
One neighbor said he heard the music from the ice cream truck and then he heard the music stop. He rushed to the scene to help.
Simon was taken to Children's Mercy where she later passed away.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation and at this point, the incident appears to be a tragic accident.
