Police identify man who fell from State Highway 24 bridge

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police have identified the man who died after he fell from the State Highway 24 bridge.

David Craven, 53, was working on a MoDOT project on the State Highway 24 bridge at Independence and Cambridge avenues just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The contract worker for MoDOT was working on wiring when he was either shocked or somehow fell from the bridge.

He worked for Mar-Jim Contracting out of Oak Grove, Mo.

The workers were replacing the bridge joints, doing bridge deck work and other general repairs.

OSHA couldn’t comment on the current investigation. It did say falls are the leading cause of death in construction.

“It is imperative that we get the word out that falls can be prevented. That employers need to make sure their employees are trained and have proper fall protection,” Barbara Theriot with the Kansas City Office of OSHA said.

This year only three people have died from falls in Missouri.
