Police are investigating a shooting that happened on the 3400 block of S. Benton in Kansas City, Missouri.

At approximately 2:37 p.m., officers were called and upon arrival to the scene, they located a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. Police identified the victim as Monrico Fletcher, 23.

Nathaniel Bailey told 41 Action News it was his brother who was shot and killed Saturday afternoon.

"It don't sound believable because he wasn't the type that was in the streets,” he said.

Bailey said his brother got in a white car before the gunman shot him. He also said the suspect had his girlfriend in the car.

"This year, just been chaos here. It's ridiculous. You hear gun shots every day. You hear people dying every day. I don't think there's one day out of the week that somebody haven't died,” he said.

KCPD released the following statement regarding the homicide:

We ask the community to help us keep their neighborhoods safe. If you see something (violent crime, etc.) please come forward and talk to police or call the TIPS Hotline.  We are continuing our efforts with the KC NoVA initiative and will continue to do whatever we can to combat violent crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
