Debbie and her husband rushed home from a weekend trip Saturday morning to find a disaster at home.

"From upstairs to the basement, there were signs that they were in every room," Debbie Powers said.

Breaking in through the back door, burglars not only trashed the home, but Lee's Summit fire officials say they set it on fire to hide evidence.

Investigators cut out a piece of the kitchen floor to pinpoint where the fire started.

Fire crews got to the house around 7 a.m. Saturday morning, after a neighbor saw the smoke and called 911. They put out fires in the kitchen and living room.

The suspects rummaged through the entire home, breaking Debbie's dishes she was given after her mother passed away and knocking over China cabinets. Contents from drawers are all over the floor.

"I just think they're horrible people that they could come in and tear up someone's house like that," Debbie said.

Even more shocking is the suspects stole the recording devices from the home's security camera system. The family has no idea how they knew where to find it.

"I lose a sense of security, but I'm very angry also. Angry with whoever did this," Debbie says.

On top of it all, this is the fourth time burglars have targeted their house in nine years, but they never went this far.

Debbie says none of it makes sense.

"I don't feel like there's anyone that I know that would do this kind of thing. There's no one that I upset that would hate me to do something like this," Debbie said.

The house didn't have an alarm system. Because of that, the family thinks the burglars were able to stay in the house for at least two hours.

Debbie wants to warn her neighbors this wasn't just a fire. The suspects are still out there.

There is no suspect description, and to Debbie's knowledge, no one saw anyone suspicious in the neighborhood.

Detectives are investigating. Anyone who has tips should call the Lee's Summit Police Department at (816) 969-1668.
