Police: Robbery leads to shooting, chase that ends with crash on 71 Highway

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police are investigating after a robbery and shooting led authorities on a chase through Kansas City that ended when the suspect crashed on the side of the highway.
Just after 12:30 a.m., officers were called to Thompson and Elmwood on reports of an armed robbery.
Authorities said two people were walking near the area when they were approached by three men in a vehicle who allegedly tried to rob them. When they wouldn't give up their property, police say one of the people in the car fired shots, hitting one of the victims. They are in critical condition at an area hospital.
The men fled the scene and a chase with police ensued on northbound 71 Highway. The suspect's car crashed near 55th Street when the driver lost control.
All three suspects were transported to area hospitals. One suspect has life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured.
