Terry G. Williams was indicted and took a plea agreement on a federal charge of theft of mail by a postal service employee Thursday.

According to court documents, Williams worked at a mail processing and distribution Center at 1700 Cleveland in Kansas City, Mo.

From April 2015 to April 2016, Williams was believed to have stolen greeting cards and Netflix DVDs as he processed the mail.

On April 26, 2016, federal agents watched Williams as he worked. They saw him pulling out colored envelopes from the trays of letters he was processing and put them into a black bag under his work station. When approached at the end of his shift, he dropped a bag he'd dropped the envelopes into and ran. Agents chased Williams, tackled him to the ground and handcuffed him.

The agents found 232 greeting cards in Williams’ bag and two gift cards in his pocket. Inside his vehicle's trunk, agents found 104 greeting cards, 34 Netflix DVD mailings and three gift cards.

Williams faces a maximum penalty of not more than 5 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, an order of restitution and a $100 mandatory special assessment.

Sentencing is set for October 25 at 10 a.m. in KCMO federal court.
