KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A total of 16 cats perished in an early morning house fire on the southeast side of KCMO early Friday morning, though nobody was injured.
The fire started about 6 a.m. at a home on Bonita Avenue near Topping. Three people inside escaped safely and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
It's not yet clear what caused the fire, said Kansas City Fire Department spokesman James Garrett, but it caused approximately $60,000 in damage to the home and its contents.
