KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There's a new leader at Research Medical Center, and it's marking a first for the hospital.
Jackie DeSouza will take over as chief executive officer at Research on February 20.
She has worked at the hospital for six years, but left to be an executive at Lee's Summit Hospital.
"I plan to do a lot of listening and observing my first few weeks," she said. "I want to find our strengths and build on those and then find areas where we need to improve and take steps to make that happen."
DeSouza is the first multicultural woman to have the top job at Research. Her mother is from Guatemala and her father is from Kenya.
"I'm the first generation American and I'm proud to represent and it's something that's very important to me, my culture, my heritage and bring a little spice to Research Medical Center," she said.
DeSouza said her top priority is making sure that every patient has exceptional care.
