River search for missing man to resume Monday

EDWARDSVILLE, Kan. - Authorities using a helicopter will resume their search Monday morning for a 30-year-old Honduran native who went missing Saturday night in the Kansas River below the Interstate 435 overpass bridge.

Members of the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department used a sonar-equipped boat on Sunday morning to search the area where the man disappeared, but were unable to locate his body.

Edwardsville, Kan., Police are in charge of the investigation, because it was within that city that the man was last seen. Detective Roger Galubski said the man's identity and the cause of his disappearance are still being investigated, and relatives in Central America are being contacted to inform them of the situation.

He said he would ask either the Kansas or Missouri Highway Patrol for the use of a helicopter to search from the air Monday morning. Galubski said it was unclear exactly what the missing man and his friends were doing on the riverbank immediately before the disappearance.
