KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Drive along 63rd Street between Oak and Troost and you'll see a number of metal plates on the streets and orange cones.

Spire Energy, formerly Missouri Gas Energy, is upgrading the gas pipelines along 63rd street from Oak to Troost. This project started in February and is scheduled to be finished in November.

Spire upgrades more than 100 miles of pipeline every year in Kansas City.

Allen Stever owns Jadore on 63rd and Oak. He says he's owned a business in the area for nearly 20 years because he loves the neighborhood feel. He says some of his regular customers are deterred by the street construction.

"They've been running new gas lines almost all summer. They have dug and re-dug," said Stever.

Despite the inconvenience, Stever says he pleased with the development along 63rd Street, even what goes on underground.

"We have to keep our infrastructure up so that's the price of progress. This part of town, in my opinion, has a charm and a neighborhood feel that you don't get anywhere else," said Stever.
