KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Volunteers spent hours on Saturday packing boxes to ensure local families have a meal for Christmas.
More than 100 Salvation Army volunteers assembled roughly 5,000 boxes of food to distribute to families this Christmas.
Volunteers like Erin Simons said she enjoys being able to get together to help out in the community.
"Everybody coming out to support one thing is just exciting to see," Simons said.
The food boxes are distributed a few days just before Christmas from the Salvation Army's eight community centers throughout the Kansas City metro.
