KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A local waterpark is joining hundreds of other groups around the world to break a Guinness World record for the World's Largest Swim Class.
Tuesday morning, Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark will be filled with children participating in a basic swim class.
There are waterparks, swimming pools and other aquatic centers in more than 24 countries involved in this world record attempt.
The classes will be held simultaneously at 10 a.m. Central Standard Time.
The current world record is 24,873 participants from 15 different countries around the world.
In addition to breaking this record, the goal is to teach children important lessons about water safety.
"It's very important to us that our guests and anybody in the community has an opportunity to learn about water safety and some of those things we need to be thinking about when we're thinking about getting in the water," said Schitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark spokesperson, Layne Pitcher. "Because it can be a lot of fun but we want to make sure we're being safe while we're doing that."
To further encourage water safety, Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark is offering discounted tickets Wednesday through next Friday, June 28, if you buy your ticket online. There will also be material at the park, informing guests about swim lessons and how important it is for everyone to be safe in the water.
