KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A second Shake Shack location could be coming to the Kansas City metro.

Richard Coleman, director of community development in Leawood, said that a request was filed to tear down the former On The Border restaurant in Town Center Plaza along 119th Street. The request includes filings for a Shake Shack restaurant in part of that space, Coleman confirmed.

The Leawood Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the request Tuesday.

Kansas City’s first Shake Shack opened last month on the Country Club Plaza. In addition to its iconic burgers, the Plaza location also serves frozen custard concretes and locally brewed beers.

The Leawood location would be the company’s first in Kansas, according to its website. Shake Shack opened its first Missouri location in St. Louis in 2017.
