As thousands of Kansas Citians get set to party for New Year's Eve on Thursday night, security precautions are being taken at areas hosting events.

At Union Station, organizers say there will be double the amount of officers compared to last year.

At Power & Light District, organizers are expecting around 6,000 people. They say they will have uniformed and plain clothes officers to keep a close eye on things.

At other places, like Californos in Westport, organizers say they will have private security to help keep watch.

Californos is hosting its 13th annual Black Party and is expecting around 500 people.

Manager Aaron Barksdale-Burns said he expects everything to go smoothly.

"Things happen everywhere, not just in Westport, but everywhere in the city," he said. "We all have to be protective of our families and ourselves."

Barksdale-Burns said on top of the security precautions, he wants people to remember to have fun.

"We're pretty much in the business of throwing big parties like this and so is this whole neighborhood," he explained. "We're very well prepared for anything that could happen tonight."
