At the new Neighborhood Cafe in Waldo, customers like what they see on their plates.

But more importantly they also like what they see on the walls - a special tribute to our veterans.

"I think that's really good," said customer Jessica Buraruk. "It gives them the recognition that they deserve."

The restaurant, which will serve up breakfast and lunch daily, hopes to line an entire wall with veterans' photos, a tradition that started years ago at the restaurant's original location in Lee's Summit.

"I can't take credit for starting this," said owner Tony Olson. "It was in the restaurant in Lee's Summit before we got there, but I'm very proud to continue it."

The restaurant collects the pictures from customers, who can proudly tell the stories of veterans in their own families.

"We have a lot of veterans that come in and dine with us, and it's really fun just hearing stories and talking to them and getting the opportunity to hear what they've done," said Olson.

The restaurant is looking for 5x7 or 8x10 photos. Customers can drop them off anytime after the restaurant officially opens on Thursday. Pictures of military members still serving are welcome as well.
