Students help fill the Ocean Tank at the new SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The new SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium at Crown Center hosted a ceremony to fill the 13-foot-deep Ocean Tank.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, students kicked off the "Waterfill Event" by dumping buckets of water from the Missouri River and Crown Center fountains into the tank.  After, workers continued filling the Ocean Tank with 130,000 gallons of water.

The tank will take two days to fill.  Eventually, it will hold 5,000 sea creatures and rely on a comprehensive filtration system.

Every 60 to 90 minutes the water will be recycled and passed through the system.

The public is invited to watch the first round of fish, sharks and rays get loaded into the tank on March 23. The aquarium will open on Friday, April 6.
